Kanawha County Couple Perish in March 30 House Fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia has suffered 23 civilian fire death so far this year following an early morning house fire Thursday that killed a Cross Lanes couple.

The victims were both 85 and had limited mobility, investigators have been told. Their Kanawha County residence had no working smoke alarms. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has ruled the cause of this fire as undetermined.

State Fire Marshal Ken Tyree says: “What a tragic loss of life. My condolences go out to the family of these lost loved ones.  Our agency is asking all who can to reach out to their neighbors, to their local fire department, or their local community service organization to do all they can to help prevent another tragic loss.”

Those who need smoke alarms or who want to help relatives or neighbors obtain them can contact the American Red Cross at 1-844-216-8286.
