State Fire Marshals arrest Marion County man for setting 3 fires

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office have arrested David James Bowman, 27, of Fairmont, on two counts of first-degree arson and felony destruction of property stemming from fires set in Wetzel County on.

At approximately 6 a.m. on December 10, the Hundred Volunteer Fire Department was called to 9513 Hornet Highway in Littleton and discovered two abandoned structures fully involved. A small fire in a third structure nearby was discovered during fire ground operations and easily extinguished. The three structures at one time were a mixed occupancy that included residential rental apartments and were three stories tall.

It was determined that Bowman had previously stolen newspapers from a Country Cupboard General Store shortly before the fires. It is believed that those newspapers fueled the fires in all three structures. Bowman was a subject of an investigation of entering without breaking after the fire and was subsequently arrested on that charge.

Bowman was interviewed at the Northern Regional Jail by Assistant State Fire Marshal R. Sovastion on December 10, and admitted to starting two fires in the original building located at 9513 Hornet Highway and a third one at 9487 Hornet Highway.

Warrants were obtained and served on Bowman on December 18. Bowman is in the custody of the Northern Reginal Jail on a $30,000 bond.
