W.Va. State Fire Marshals charge Upshur County man

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office announces arson charges filed against a man in connection with a fire set to his residence early Friday morning.

Hunter Ray Shreve, 23, of Buckhannon is charged with first-degree arson. Investigators believe Shreve set a fire to his home, on Old Elkins Road in Buckhannon, where his parents were sleeping.

The fire happened at 5:11 am on Aug. 16. Neighbors reported seeing fire and called 911. The two people inside the home, asleep when the fire started, were able to escape. No working smoke alarms were inside the home.

Deputies were able to speak with Shreve after the fire, and he told them he had set it. The investigation of the fire scene revealed the fire as incendiary in nature.

Shreve was taken into custody and charged. He went before a magistrate and is currently in Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bail set at $125,000.

This arrest resulted from a combined effort by WVSFMO investigator P.E. Alloway and deputies from the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department.
