W.Va. State Fire Marshal’s charge Marion Co. man in motel fire

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office has charged a man in connection with a Marion County motel fire that caused extensive damage.
WVSFMO investigators have charged Randy O. Player, 64, of Fairmont, with one count of first-degree arson. Player is alleged to have set fire to the County Club Inn Motel located at 1499 Locust Ave. in Fairmont on July 5.

Player was staying in a room on the property when he notified an employee at the motel, apparently falsely, that he was robbed by two men and he then set fire to the blinds in his window. Two rooms were damaged because of the fire.

Player was arrested on July 6 and arraigned in Marion County Magistrate Court. He remains in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $750,000 bond.

The arrest was made by WVSFMO investigator R.C. Ayersman and Fairmont Police.
