Notice of Passing:  Randy A. Breeden, former WV State Fire Commissioner
 
 
Randy A. Breeden, 76, of Charles Town, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Christiana Hospital Season’s Hospice Center, Newark, Delaware.
 
Born May 5, 1941, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Dan H. Breeden and Vernie Virginia (Fellers) Breeden. Mr. Breeden retired after 30 years from General Motors as a computer technician; and was employed with EDS Corp. He was of the Christian faith.
 
Randy was a long-time member and past president of the Citizens Fire Company, Charles Town. He was a West Virginia State Fire Commissioner; had served on the Charles Town City Council; was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 948, Charles Town; and a member of Jackson-Perks American Legion Post No. 71, Charles Town.
 
Mr. Breeden served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam, receiving the rank of staff sergeant.
  
He is survived by four daughters, Mary L. Breeden and husband, Elwood, of Ranson; Kathryn C. Kiser, of Front Royal, Virginia, Michelle C. Whetzel, of Charles Town, and Valeria J. Knotts and husband, Luther, of Bentonville, Virginia; son, John D. Breeden and wife, Karlynn, of Newark, Delaware; grandchildren, Woody Breeden, Matthew Walker, Joshua Walker, Courtney Fraley, Andrew Breeden, Emily Kiser, Randy Walker, Benjamen Kiser, Katelynn Luzzi, Brooke Luzzi, Grant Breeden, Timothy Whetzel Jr, Taylor Whetzel and Tori Knotts; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sandy Breeden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Valeria C. Breeden, who died Feb. 15, 2016; three sisters, Imogene Breeden, Sue Ann Breeden and Lucy Lee Hough; and two brothers, Irving Breeden and Daniel H. “Danny” Breeden.
 
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Phillip Pollard officiating.
 
Interment will be at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
  
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home.
