Notice of Passing: Jeffrey Pittman, Sophia City Fire and Rescue Chief

Fire Chief and Paramedic Jeffrey Allen Pittman, 54 of Sophia received his final call on Friday July 14, 2017. Born June 28, 1963 he was the son of Charles J. and Lois Pittman. He was preceded in death by his sister Terri Rae Clay, and his brother Charles Glenn Pittman.


Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Linda Darlene Pittman, his parents, his sisters Charla Deskins and Tracey Garretson. Ryan, Charlie and Bethany Pittman and Joe O'Dell. Additional family include Leonard and Linda Carr, Lavada and Jack Whitt, Isaac and Melinda Carr, John Carr, and a host of family and friends too numerous to name but equally loved.


Jeff's passion was serving his community through his fire and EMS career spanning 36 years. Jeff's legacy includes serving as the fire chief in Sophia for 30 years. He served on Sophia City Council, and was a City Judge. Jeff was a paramedic and over the years worked with Sophia Ambulance, Emergency One, Am Star, Jan Care, Medic Alert, McDowell Authority, Alert One, and Best Ambulance. Jeff owned and operated Emergency Response Ambulance and was a fire and EMS instructor. Jeff was an irreplaceable civic volunteer who always provided an outpouring of assistance to those in need and was ever present for his community.


Jeff was a proud member of many organizations including Masons, Shriners, Scottish Rite, Civil Air Patrol, Jaycees, and the Sophia Sprit Committee. Through all of his endeavors, Jeff felt fortunate and grateful to have his loving wife Linda by his side. He loved spending time with his family, friends and their three babies, Frank, Jessie, and Missy.
Family and friends will honor Jeff on Tuesday July 18, 2017 at the Family Worship Center of Beckley from 12:00 to 2:00pm. Funeral services will follow and burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.


Masonic service will be held at the cemetery, and the Masons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Jeff, contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
