Electrical Inspector Certification



​Initial Certification

In accordance with West Virginia Code, Chapter 29, Article 3C, every person performing electrical inspections for compensation or hire within the State of West Virginia SHALL be licensed by the State Fire Marshal as an Electrical Inspector (Effective April 1, 2004).

 

Licensure Classifications and Minimum Requirements

Class A Electrical Inspector's License

 
Successful completion of the International Code Council's (ICC) Test E1 and possess a valid WV Master or Journeyman Electrician's License.

 
Class B Electrical Inspector's License

 
Successful completion of the International Code Council's (ICC) Test E1 and E2, and possess a valid WV Master or Journeyman Electrician's License.

 
Class C Electrical Inspector's License

 
Successful completion of the International Code Council's (ICC) Test E1, E2 and E3, and possess a valid WV Master or Journeyman Electrician's License.

 
All classifications must in addition, obtain and maintain Errors & Omissions Insurance (Professional Liability) in the amount of not less than, one million
dollars ($1,000,000), and general liability insurance in an amount not less than seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000.00). 

Proof of renewal shall be forwarded to the State Fire Marshal's office prior to the expiration date of the policy and shall cover at a minimum the period for which the Electrical Certification is issued.
