Important Notices:​
No person may perform fire protection work as defined in 29-3D unless licensed by the State Fire Marshal. 
 
Effective June 16, 2021, due to the passage of new legislative rules​, Fire Damper Technicians, Fire Damper Technicians In-Training, and Sprinkler Fitter's In-Training no longer require licensure to perform fire protection work. 



Types of Fire Protection Worker Licenses:
  • Fire Protection Layout Technician
  • Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter
  • Engineered Fire Suppression System Installer
  • Engineered Fire Suppression System Technician
  • Pre-Engineered Fire Suppression System Installer
  • Pre-Engineered Fire Suppression System Technician
  • Portable Fire Extinguisher Technician 

Licensure Process:
Persons wishing to obtain their Fire Protection License shall provide the following prior to the issuance of the license:

 
1.  Complete the Fire Protection Worker application.
2.  Be at least 18 years of age.
3.  Pay all application review and license fees. Must be paid by check or money order only. 
4.  Submit ALL work experience, certifications and supporting documentation with the application.

Application for Fire Protection Worker


Licensure Renewal:
Renewal Notices are mailed to​ the licensee address on file approximately ninety (90) days prior to the license expiration date.
Fire Protection Workers  will have the option of paying for either a one (1) year license renewal or a three (3) year license renewal. 
Please be advised no grace period exists for Fire Protection Worker licenses. All FPW license renewals must be postmarked by the expiration date.
